The media book is not, in fact, a virtual book but a ‘real’ book. By turning its pages, users automatically initiate a media presentation: the composition on the sheet of music can be heard, a speaker outlines the special features of the object depicted or the images in the book are simply highlighted with acoustic moods and the ambient light is dynamically altered to match the pictures.
The interface is a real book people can leaf through as usual, quite traditional, both analogue and haptically. A further media dimension – the soundtrack that is activated – is a pleasant surprise. A simple, yet effective interactive display without a monitor or other visible technology. The media book is perfectly suited to pictures or picture stories that are to be illuminated and supplemented by an atmospheric accompaniment and associated presentation.
The module can, of course, also be used with a monitor, as shown by the MediaMarkt example. The monitor is integrated into the book and leafing through it activates the relevant video clip.
